Thanks to Apple’s improving chips that get better and better, we now have iPod models like the iPod Shuffle. There was a time when you lost features whenever you went down a size in electronics. That’s becoming less and less the case. So the most of the micro iPod models still give us the same great features we’re used to. Another pretty good example of how they’ve done this is with the iPod Nano, credit-card-thin, but still has lots of storage, features, and battery life.
Ever since we’ve been able to, there’s always been the need for people to take their music along with them, whether it’s to listen as they’re traveling, or as just a transportation device. Of course we had the tape players, CD’s, which are still used today, although you’d be hard pressed to find someone with a portable CD player these days, and of course the earlier MP3 players, which were hideous. They were huge, and had basically no storage.
The iPod shuffle has changed all of that. It’s a better choice, not only because of its size, but the features that seem to keep adding and adding up. It seems that when you compare it side by side, it’s better in every way than the other MP3 players out there. It has a built-in battery, which has an incredible life, and it charges very quickly. Most iPods users report getting hours of play time out of theirs. That’s a huge leap in quality, no matter what you’re comparing it to. Other models also required external media, like an SD card or memory stick that you would have to stick in it, then stick in your computer. That was annoying, and just involved extra costs. Now the iPod IS the media.
Apple also offers several other versions of their iPods. Some models provide video playback, and some are bare-minimum, strictly music, like the shuffle. Earlier versions of the shuffle would only play songs in random order. They’re still audio only, but now the major feature is they’re insanely small. They could easily clip onto a necktie, or shirt pocket. It still has no screen, and the random feature is now an option that you can turn off.
If you’re shopping for an MP3 player, you’ve got some options, as far as brand names go, but Apple is the clear choice with most people.
